So... you're a phone 📱

Think of your hormones as notifications
And Hormone HQ is the notification centre 🔔

Your body has different modes. Notifications. Messages. Settings. And a whole load of things quietly running in the background.

Your hormones are constantly sending tiny chemical messages (notifications) to the parts of you that need to know.

🔍 Textbook Terminology

Changes inside or outside the body can trigger a response from the endocrine system.

The body uses hormones to help regulate processes and maintain normal conditions.

Hormones are chemical messengers produced by endocrine glands.

They are released into the bloodstream and transported around the body.

Only cells with the correct receptor can respond to a particular hormone.

When the hormone binds to its receptor, it signals the target cell or organ to change what it is doing.

👄 Girl Talk Translation

Imagine you’re lying in bed watching one more TikTok.

Then you look at the time...

“OMG I NEED TO LEAVE.” 😰

Your brain has clocked the problem:
🚨 WE'RE LATE.

Your body sends out a hormone (basically a tiny chemical 'notification' carrying the 'message').

Which travels through your bloodstream, a bit like the body's personal hotspot, looking for whoever needs to 'receive' it.

Using the "💩 I''M LATE" example from above again:

Hormone HQ wouldn't send Melatonin (your sleepy hormone 🥱).

That's when Adrenaline (your "GO GO GO" hormone 🫨) joins the chat and tags the team needed (in this case, it would be @Brain @Muscles @

The cells with the matching receptor are basically the ones that have been @mentioned. They receive the message and go: “Yep, that's for me” and respond.

Might be good to start with what hormones actually are... 🤷🏼‍♀️

Open Hormone HQ to see the messages arrive, or translate one of those “why do I feel like THIS?” moments.
